Also known as “Temporary Health Insurance”, Short Term Medical Insurance is coverage that spans from 30 to 365 days.  You get coverage for unexpected illnesses and accidents, but pre-existing medical conditions and routine doctor visits aren’t covered. You choose the plan that best fits your needs or budget, and coverage can be obtained as early as the next day with just a few simple medical questions to answer.

It is eligible to healthy individuals between ages of 30 days and 64 years 11 months. Dependent children through age 18 (24 if a full-time student) may be covered on their parent’s plan, as well. Short Term plans are also available to foreign residents living in the U.S. for at least one year at the time of enrollment, with proof of Alien Registration Receipt Card, visa or other appropriate documentation.

Short Term Medical Insurance is a great option for people who are between jobs, recent college graduates, waiting for employer-sponsored coverage, are employed temporarily or seasonally, or who are looking for a lower-cost alternative to COBRA.
